ASSOCIATE PASTOR: Rev. Ben Parmer
Ben has been described as "a country boy who has been places." He is from a small town in East Alabama but grew up as an Air Force brat being born at the Air Force Academy. He grew up going to church but the gospel did not become clear until he was a freshman in college at Samford University. An older guy in his Fraternity asked if he could disciple him. He did not know what that meant but agreed and four months later became a Christian. Ben has a passion for Life on Life Missional discipleship and longs to see Christ formed in God's people (Gal 4:19). He has served in East Asia teaching English, Orlando with a campus ministry, church planting in Puerto Rico and in Montgomery, AL working with International Students. Ben most recently served at the Dean of Students and Greek instructor at Sangre de Cristo Seminary in Westcliffe, CO where he is also a graduate.
Ben is married to Nikki and they met while she was serving as a missionary in Almaty, Kazakhstan. They have four children: Lydia, Thomas, Sam & AJ. The Parmer's love to spend time with people and opening their home to bring the beauty of the Gospel to the brokenness of life. When Ben is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family, reading, playing guitar, anything outdoors, all types of BBQ and cheering on the Crimson Tide. He is also becoming an avid Chiefs fan!

DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN'S MINISTRY: Sue Bolander
Sue believes she has the best job in the church. Growing up in Connecticut she spent many summers attending church camp. Her goal at that young age was to grow up and be a camp counselor. She saw that goal become a reality and worked at her summer camp for 6 summers. Working with children and sharing the gospel of Jesus has always been Sue’s desire. After working at camp, Sue worked for a year teaching 2nd grade in Kansas City but realized her calling was truly in children’s ministry.
Sue is married to David and the mother of Matthew and Sarah. She attended Eastern University in St. David’s PA and graduated with a teaching degree. Sue has served for “many” years at Brookdale Church and loves working with all the families in the church and neighborhood. When Sue isn’t at the church, she enjoys watching her children’s sporting/musical events, long walks, biking and cheering on the Royals.
DIRECTOR OF STUDENT MINISTRIES: Kelly Taylor
Working with youth definitely keeps you young; not to say that I am old by any means, just that my job keeps me on my toes and I love it. I have been involved with youth and/or children’s ministry for a majority of my life, from teenage to adulthood. As a child I grew up on Port Orchard, WA where I was involved in AWANA’s at my local church, and during my teenage years I volunteered with the younger kids and also participated in youth group. After graduation I attended Multnomah Bible College in Portland, Oregon where I earned a degree in Bible and Theology and Educational Ministries. I knew I wanted a career in education or ministry, but was not sure where exactly God was leading me. After college I moved to St Joseph, MO to serve as the interim youth director here at Brookdale for a year. My time as the interim taught me two things: 1) I want to do ministry and 2) I want to minister to these kids not only spiritually, but also emotionally So in 2010, I began working toward my Masters degree at UMKC in counseling and psychology.
I have since graduated with my Masters degree, married my husband Andrew Taylor and together we have an amazing daughter named Addison. I love the opportunity I have to pour into the youth of St Joseph and can’t imagine doing anything else.
